The Mary Frances Cookbook 1912 Reprint Adventures among the kitchen people

This Vintage Cookbook is one most loved by people who owned a copy in their childhood. Charming illustrations, a lovely story line and good, workable recipes.
It has hidden messages telling little girls that they must be obedient, kind, courteous, have good manners, take responsibility, obey parents, serve the males in the household and other quaint Victorian ideas.
The mother has become ill, but fortunately she had fulfilled one of her motherly duties by writing cooking instructions for her daughter to use, should the need arise. When the mother is taken away to recuperate, Mary Frances tries to use the book her mother had written with such foresight. But the little girl is quite unsure of herself and still needs help. Thus she is delighted to find that the cooking utensils begin to talk. She becomes a success in the kitchen and prepares a homecoming dinner for her mother’s return.

Washington Womens Cookbook 1909 Reprint

This Vintage Cookbook is a reprint of the 1909 edition. A fine example of a charity cookbook. It represents the growth of the women’s movement, in general, and the suffrage effort, in particular. From the dedication (”To the first woman who realized that half of the human race were not getting a square deal…”) to the pithy pro-suffrage quotations at the beginning of each chapter to the articles on the role and formation of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and the Progress of Woman’s Suffrage - this book is a milestone for tracing the involvement of women in the greater world. But, it is also a splendid cookbook. The recipes are all attributed. There are chapters on Sailor’s Recipes, Vegetarian Foods, German Recipes and a Mountaineer’s Chapter.
