A Taste of Maryland History A Guide To Historic Eateries And Their Recipes Taste of History

Continuing their popular Taste of History series, Nunley and Elliott feature over 75 restaurants in this combination travel guide/cookbook. The book highlights restaurants located in buildings of historic interest, many of which are more than 100 years old. Old train stations; historic hotels, homes, and vacation retreats; as well as sites along the National Road are examples of some of the locales that are featured. In addition to historical background and anecdotal information, there are two or three recipes chosen by the restaurant’s chef given for each entry. The book’s recipe selection is evidence that there’s so much more than crab in Maryland.

The Mary Frances Cookbook 1912 Reprint Adventures among the kitchen people

This Vintage Cookbook is one most loved by people who owned a copy in their childhood. Charming illustrations, a lovely story line and good, workable recipes.
It has hidden messages telling little girls that they must be obedient, kind, courteous, have good manners, take responsibility, obey parents, serve the males in the household and other quaint Victorian ideas.
The mother has become ill, but fortunately she had fulfilled one of her motherly duties by writing cooking instructions for her daughter to use, should the need arise. When the mother is taken away to recuperate, Mary Frances tries to use the book her mother had written with such foresight. But the little girl is quite unsure of herself and still needs help. Thus she is delighted to find that the cooking utensils begin to talk. She becomes a success in the kitchen and prepares a homecoming dinner for her mother’s return.

This delightfully written book is the perfect Christmas gift for anyone visiting or living in Pennsylvania. More than just a restaurant guide, the book gives the history behind each restaurant as well as selected recipes from each establishment. The book is a must for anyone who enjoys elegant dining.
5 Stars A magnificent blend of travel guide and regional recipes.
This guide to historic Pennsylvania eateries blends a cookbook with a travel guide, exploring the range of cuisines available to Pennsylvanians in over sixty countries in the state. Nearly 900 restaurants were researched and over two hundred sampled before selecting the hundred-plus featured here: chapters are strong on the recipes, sans photos.

4 Stars Good NC Cookbook
Lots of good NC Restaurants are here. Book is a little dated, but still has great recipes. Just wish it was spiral binded. The crabcake recipe is wonderful. A must for the southern cook!
4 Stars Great housewarming gift for newcomers!
I have given this book to lots of friends. There is a pen-and-ink drawing and a brief history of each restaurant featured in the book. Each restaurant has submitted several recipes. Most of the restaurants featured are the top restaurants in the state. The author has also written other books for states throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. If you are a realtor, this would make a perfect housewarming gift for your clients who are new to the area!
