5 Stars Awesome history!
This is a very entertianing, informative little book. I got it for my nephew who is a budding cook. He was thrilled to learn how the “old folks” did things and had a wonderful time trying out the recipes. He was especially entertained by the measurements and had to ask his Auntie how big a walnut was! I would recommend this book for any cook but particularly for young cooks just starting out. It brings a great piece of history into the present.
5 Stars Smiles and chuckles for the Great Old–Timey Cooks
The small 72 page book is full of old time wisdom and recipes. Pictures from the past combined with stories of the simple life will bring smiles to a mundane day. Although I’m not as old as the people in the book, somethings never change. I remember our next door neighbour kill a chicken on a Saturday so they could have it for Sunday dinner. I’ve had the pleasure of scrubbing clothes on a scrub board and milk a goat. I’ve known people just like the ones in the book; it brings back memories of long ago.
This small book is sure to bring a chuckle or two to some old timers and young people alike.

Hippy Gourmet in the Lagoons of Venice Italy on the majestic sailing yacht Eolo
Hippy Gourmet in the Lagoons of Venice Italy on the majestic sailing yacht Eolo

In this episode we are so blessed to have the opportunity to hitch a ride on the historically restored sailing/fishing vessel known as Eolo. Owner and Chef Mauro Stoppa gives us a lovely tour of the lagoon, setting sail and then bringing us down below where he whips up some incredible dishes! Mauro prepares Marinated Scampi! Then Mauro makes a Cuddle Fish with Shallots and Cherry Sauce. And finally a Risotto with Fresh Peas that is out of this world. That evening we dock at Locanda Alle Porte 1632, a family-owned and operated fully organic bed and breakfast! Later we venture off with Orindo as he gives us a tour of the family owned Organic Farm that provides all the produce for their restaurant and bed and breakfast! Continuing on the Eolo sailing yacht, we dock at the island of Lazzaretto Nuovo, the island known as they gateway, or entrance of the Venetian lagoon. Dr. Gerolamo Fazzini, gives us a fantastic glimpse back in time to the early beginnings of Venice itself. Finally, Eolo winds its way toward the Island of Torcello where we are invited into Locanda Cipriani for a fabulous luncheon! Hosted by Bonifacio Brass, Locanda Cipriani is known for being the place that actually invented Carpaccio! Locanda Cipriani is also known for hosting Ernest Hemmingway! Surrounded by lush gardens and an ancient monastery, the combination of gourmet dining and historic vistas makes this place a must visit!
